What we aim for
The site is built to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. We check each page against it when the page changes, and we fix what we find.
What the site does
- Keyboard. Everything works without a mouse, including the switches on the Flight Board. Each switch is a button that says whether it is on, and the paddle order is read out as it changes.
- Visible focus. Whatever has keyboard focus carries a thick yellow and black ring, on light and dark sections alike. A skip link at the top jumps straight to the content.
- Reduced motion. If your device asks for less motion, animations and transitions switch off and the Flight Board fills its glasses at once. The only motion otherwise is that pour, which lasts about a second and stops on its own.
- Text alternatives. Every photograph that carries meaning has a description of what is in it. Purely decorative layers are hidden from screen readers.
- Captions. The site has no video or audio, so there is nothing to caption.
- Colour contrast. Text and controls are checked against the AA contrast ratios. Status and keg warnings are written in words, never shown by colour alone.
- Forms. Every field has a label. Mistakes are explained in words next to the field, and the result is announced to screen readers.
- Touch. Buttons, switches and menu links are at least 44 pixels tall, and pages reflow to a phone width with no sideways scrolling.
The building
The powerhouse is a single-floor machine hall, and getting in does not involve a step. The details, from the same list the bar works from:
- Getting in and around
- Yes. The front door is level with the parking lot, the hall is one floor, and there is an accessible washroom by the bar. Two accessible stalls are next to the door. The patio is packed gravel with a firm path along the building.
- Parking
- Our own lot off Turbine Hall Road, about 40 spaces, free. Bike racks by the door. On First Pour Friday and Live in the Hall nights it fills by 7.
- Service dogs
- Service dogs are welcome inside and on the patio. Other dogs are welcome on the patio, on a leash.
If you need something set up before you arrive, a table near the door or a plan for a tour group, tell us when you book and we will sort it out with you. Directions and parking
Known limits
- The poured-glass photographs on the Flight Board are decorative and hidden from screen readers. The ticket beside them carries the same information in text: each beer, its order, the price and the standard drinks.
- The open-now line and the events list are worked out in your browser from the posted hours. For a moment while a page loads, they show the regular hours and the weekly schedule instead.
If you find something we have missed, it belongs on this list until it is fixed.
